Perspire's debut album Hussy is a sweeping exercise in analog synthesizer composition and sample experimentation. Pulling from influences that include DJ Shadow, Tangerine Dream, John Carpenter, and a heavy dose of hair metal. Hussy is futuristic beats and carpenter synths
colliding with Glammed-up 80’s sunset strip.

About The Album

"I'd been listening to a fair amount of 80's synth soundtrack music, and at the same time getting reacquainted with records like DJ Shadow’s Entroducing. which influenced me a great deal when I was younger. When revisiting, one of the things that stuck out, beyond the obscure samples, was the way he flipped popular iconic songs like Metallica's Orion and Bjork's Possibly Maybe into new works. It inspired me to integrate samples into my own work, along with the synth and guitar material I 'd been focusing on. I used Hair Metal as a jumping-off point for vocal samples and expanded from there. I love the Hair Metal genre and the idea of taking these vocals and strategically splicing them up into a whole new context was exciting.

This process was all about creating a narrative that would unfold over the 9-song album. Some of the material was 90 percent completed and I was just adding the extra layer to heighten the story arc - just trying to find the perfect vocal sample that fit the mood of the composition. Other times, like with Exdream, I started playing around with the vocal reversing, pitching, and editing until I came up with something unique, then started adding the synth layers and drums around it. The single Is It the End (Real Life) was one that I approached differently - it was me singing through a talk box for the hook and the rest came together pretty quickly. In terms of the album cover and title I wanted to do a dramatic play on some of the visual elements of old Metal and Hair Metal covers from the 80's. I wanted to flip them on their head.
